{"id":26,"date":"2024-04-04T06:07:30","date_gmt":"2024-04-04T03:07:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sisu.ut.ee\/meteo\/radarmeteorology\/"},"modified":"2024-04-04T06:09:16","modified_gmt":"2024-04-04T03:09:16","slug":"radarmeteorology","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/meteo.ut.ee\/en\/radarmeteorology\/","title":{"rendered":"Radarmeteorology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\t\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:16px\">Radar meteorology is a\u00a0branch\u00a0of physical meteorology, it is the study of the atmosphere, especially clouds and precipitation by using radar as the means of observation and measurement.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\t<br><span style=\"font-size:16px\">One of the main research topics in our lab is the <a data-url=\"https:\/\/rmets.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/full\/10.1002\/met.1652\" href=\"https:\/\/rmets.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/full\/10.1002\/met.1652\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">analysis of hazardous weather phenomena using dual-polarization weather radar data<\/a> \u2013 detection, nowcasting, spatiotemporal distributions and relation to climatological conditions of convective storms and accompanying phenomena (hail, extreme precipitation, lightning). In addition we study the spatiotemporal distributions of precipitation intensity and amount over longer periods. As doing research using meteorological radars includes a lot of data processing we also do radar data quality analysis.
